The Assessor’s Office primary objective is to ensure that all taxable property located within the Town of Plainfield is assessed in accordance with applicable law so every property owner bears an appropriate share of the total property tax burden. To accomplish this objective, the assessor must discover, list and equitably value all property within their jurisdiction. The result of these efforts is the Grand List. The Grand List represents the total of assessed values for all taxable real property, personal property, and motor vehicles located within the Town on October 1st of any given year.
Assessments for real property are based on 70 percent of the fair market value. Values in the Town of Plainfield are base on the October 1, 2017 Revaluation. The next revaluation will be set to begin August 2021, values will be set for October 1, 2022.
